Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact me if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Psychotherapy is talk-based therapy that is to help increase and/or maintain well-being and mental health and is performed by a Registered Psychotherapist (RP).

Psychotherapy is for anyone who is seeking positive change in how they feel, think, behave and function socially. Those individuals are called clients. Clients and an RP enter into a psychotherapeutic relationship to work on any or all of these things.

We will discuss what is bringing you to search for a therapist. Anything you do not want to share yet you do not have to. I will tell you about the policies, consent, my scope of practice, the benefits and risks of therapy. And we begin to map out plan to get you towards your goals if we are a good fit.

Yes, most insurance companies reimburse for psychotherapy like Medavie Blue Cross, Manulife, and Sunlife. At the end of each session the session fee will be charged to your credit card that is securely stored on your Jane App account, and the receipt will be emailed to you. You submit this to your insurance company. Be sure to contact your insurance if you are unsure about coverage.

These are also called therapeutic modalities or therapeutic orientations. These are evidence-based frameworks a psychotherapist uses to help the client towards their goals. For example, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral treatment. The target population this therapy was developed for was those with suicidal ideation/behaviours and diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Research shows DBT to be effective in treating other conditions, including substance use disorders, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and eating disorders.
